Interior and Exterior Photography

Why use a professional?

Professional photographers will do things differently! Your home may look good to you and me, but the camera sees it in a different way! Let me blind you with science and convince you that you need professional photography!

TRIPOD

For a start I'll be using a tripod and cable release. Your images may look good on a phone but when they are enlarged either onto a pc screen or printed in a brochure, you'll want extra sharpness. Using a tripod lets me get a great 'Depth of Field' which keeps the picture sharp all the way through, and also to use a slow ISO reducing 'noise' so adding to the crispness

LIGHTING INSIDE

The human eye 'sees' differently to the camera. One common mistake with interior shots is to allow the scenery outside the window 'bleach' to white, because the camera can't record such wide ranges of brightness that the eye can see. I'll assess each room and decide whether to use flash lighting inside or use some digital magic!

FILTERS AND LIGHTING OUTSIDE

How many times has a beautiful blue sky you have photographed just turned to white? And the building looks too dark? I'll use 'polarising' filters to restore the natural beauty of the sky to enhance your image of your property. Blue skies, nothing but blue skies! I'll research the best time to visit your property to make use of the natural light

WHITE BALANCE

Ever wondered why the colours of your photographs are all over the place? Why is Uncle Fred orange, and the oranges are blue? It's 'white balance'! Every light source has different colour: interior lights are yellowish compared to outside light. I'll be using studio lighting, post-processing in 'Photoshop' and a bit of other magic to make sure your cream walls stay creamy!

WIDER, STILL YET WIDER

Sometimes I'll use a wide-angle lens to get all your room in and make it, er, well, look a bit bigger than you might expect. It's not lying, cameras don't lie, it's just helping to show your room in one picture. Hey, that's how flies see it anyway!

UPRIGHT PICTURES: STAY VERTICAL!

Have you ever taken a picture of a building and it makes you dizzy because the walls seem to converge and lean over? It's because of the different way a camera sees perspective. I'll use post-processing in Photoshop to make your walls stand upright, just like you see them in real life, and how your client would like them actually to be

DIGITAL PROCESSING

I'll be looking at your photographs very, very carefully, like a fussy house-husband. They will be brushed up, just like you do the cleaning every week. Also, I'll make sure that they are not too BIG, or TOO little for how they are going to be used. Just like baby bear's porridge they'll be just right: for quick loading onto a website, or high resolution for a printed brochure
